In my second year in graduate school at FSU, I attended a week-long summer school for nuclear physics at the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB) located at Michigan State University. It was a crash-course in the fundamentals and major research areas within the nuclear physics/astrophysics field, including lectures, hands-on activities, as well as poster presentations (I didn’t win the poster contest, unfortunately). Having just joined my research group the previous summer, I figured it would be a great opportunity to learn more about the field that often made me feel quite overwhelmed. I was hoping to go in, be encapulated by all the talks, and have a newfound inspiration and new topics to pursue in my own research.
What is this blog going to be?
The short answer is whatever I want. But for cohesiveness sake, I will limit the blog to my experiences and ideas regarding machine learning, usually focusing on financial machine learning. My hope is, although I may focus on finance, it can be a branch for me to connect with other Data people using ML in other contexts as well. Feel free to reach out to me via email (dennishoulihan12@gmail.com).
